The Cloud works are comprised of photos we have taken of actual letter-, face- or object-shaped clouds as they occurred in nature. The resulting art reflects our interest in the overlap between text and image, uncovers an enduring human impulse to anthropomorphize nature, and demonstrates the brain’s inherent need to make literal sense of whatever it encounters.

Using film-based cameras combined with digital output, we scan our photos and transparencies, then color-correct, sharpen and crop those digital files to most accurately render what was in the original photographs. Sometimes we group images together to make larger compositions, but we do not alter or fabricate any subject matter; that is drawn purely by the sky. The final artwork files are then produced in very limited editions as LightJet prints.
